About the Author..

Shawn Smith, Psy.D., has offered violence prevention training to hundreds of people in private companies, government organizations, and the general public.

Shawn's fascination with violence prevention began as a child, growing up in the family-owned bar. He went on to earn degrees in Communication and Psychology from the University of Colorado at Denver and a doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Denver.

Shawn has had years of first-hand experience with violence prevention. He spent five years patrolling the streets with the Guardian Angels Safety Patrol, serving as a trainer and senior patrol leader for this nationally renowned organization. His background also includes work in a group home for troubled and violent teens, a drug and alcohol detoxification facility, the Colorado Department of Corrections, and even Bosnia. Shawn has also studied the techniques and philosophies of the martial arts for more than twenty years, helping him understand the value of preventing violent conflict.

He is currently in private practice in Denver, Colorado specializing in treatment of anxiety, depression, substance abuse, and relationship difficulties. He also writes the psychology information website, IronShrink.com.
